Do you want to visit one of the most beautiful and picturesque places in the world? Then you should put the Maldives at the top of your list.
What is the Maldives?
The Maldives are 26 coral atolls in the Indian Ocean, making up nearly 1200 individual islands. Of these 1200 islands, 200 are inhabited and 100 are specifically for holiday resorts.
Best time to visit
The best times to visit the Maldives is between December and April when the weather is warm and dry. However, this is also the most expensive time and the busiest. If you are looking to go a little cheaper, May to November are also warm, except the weather can be more unpredictable as it is the wet season. Often rain in these months does not last very long and you can still have lovely weather, it is just not guaranteed.
Getting to the Maldives
You can get a direct flight from Dubai to Male International Airport and it takes just over 4 hours. Once you arrive here you will need additional transport to your resort, usually via a boat or sea plane. Check when you book if your resort includes transportation.
The resorts in the Maldives are mainly of pure luxury, so a stay here will not be cheap. Most resorts are all inclusive so at least you know you are not racking up a huge bill!
Overwater bungalows are a Maldivian classic, however sometimes have less privacy due to close proximity with neighbors – check before booking.
Many people prefer bungalows which have private beaches.
Some resorts will offer specific cuisines, so check this when you are looking to book. Fish is very popular in the Maldives so there should be a lot of options for this, as well as coconut. Dishes and flavors. You must also try a Maldivian Curry!
What to do
If you want a change of scenery from the beautiful white beaches and glinting waters, take a trip to the capital Male. Male is a stark contrast from the luxury resorts. With its bustling markets, alcohol free bars, restaurants and colorful buildings. This is where you get to meet the real Maldivians.
The Maldives truly are the height of luxury – food, views, beaches, accommodation and everything else in-between. A location that cannot be missed.
