Be it for a romantic weekend away, a cultural exploration, luxury shopping on one of the most famous and fashionable shopping streets known, or all of the above, it is no wonder that Paris was the third most visited city in the world last year!
Here is all you need to know if you are visiting Paris for the first time.
How to get there:
There are many direct flights between the UAE and Paris each week with a flight time of around 7 hours. You can fly from Dubai to Charles de Gaulle for around 3600AED return.
Best times to visit:
Paris can be visited at any time of the year, and each season offers a slightly different experience and feeling to the next.
After pretty spring blooms are the busy summer months, with tourists flocking in their hundreds and thousands, but the summer brings a relaxed atmosphere with long lazy days and nights. Autumn brings exhibition season for the creatives, with the winter bringing Christmas markets, ice rinks many celebrations!
Where to stay:
There is no one specific place to stay in Paris as this will all depend on budget and location. Different districts will each have their own personality and things to offer, including lots of places to stay in each.
For easy access to the major sights and landmarks, stay in the Right Bank areas (Louvre and Les Halles, Le Marais and St- Germain des Pres).
For something a little more creative with a hipster vibe, visit the Canal St-Martin area.
Paris has a huge number of hotels to offer, from famous worldwide chains to boutique or small luxury accommodation. But, if you want to experience what it is really like to live in the city, consider renting a home through a website like AirBNB.
How to get around
To and from the airport: There are many buses and trains linking Charles de Gaulle and Orly Airports to the city center, with these being the most cost-effective ways of getting into the city.
Viewing the sights: Walking is the best way to travel between many of the popular sites in Paris, so pack some comfy shoes!
Batobus: This is a river boat service that stops along the main destinations on the river Seine. Great for hopping on and off and getting a river view of the city.
Velib Bikes: Like other cities in the world like New York and London, Paris also has an easy bike rental option. Pick up a bike at many of the stations dotted around the capital and return them to another. This is a fun and exciting (not to mention active) was to view the city. You will need your own helmet for these bikes.
Metro: Another great way to get around the city is by the fast and safe metro. Grab yourself a map and a ticket and off you go!
What to see:
Eifel Tower: One of the most recognizable structures in the world is also the symbol of the capital of France. The Eiffel Tower is 324m tall, and you can take a trip up to 3 different areas; shops on the 1st floor, the famous Jules Verne restaurant on the 2nd (which just happens to be 125m above the ground!) and up on the 3rd floor are 360 views of the city.
Champs Elysees: This 1.9km road is home to many luxury brand shops, theatres and cafes.
Museum du Louvre: This museum is home to incredible works of art dating back to the middle ages up until 1848. Here you can find the famous Mona Lisa, the Raft of the Medusa, the Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory of Samothrace, and this is just the start of the list of 35,000 works to be discovered! The Louvre should also be visited at night when it is less crowded when you can enjoy views of the stunning glass pyramid.
Arc de Triomphe: You must go and see the Arc de Triomphe when you are in Paris, it is hard not to miss it too! The biggest arch in the world is situated at one end of the Champs Elysees and you can take a trip up to the top for panoramic views of Paris. You can head up during the day or at night. Or maybe make the trip for both?
Sainte-Chapelle: The chapel was built in the 12th century to house Christ’s Crown of Thorns, and features 600m2 of stunning stained-glass windows. It is utterly stunning.
Notre-Dame: This Gothic cathedral is the most famous cathedral from the middle ages and a must see for any visitor to Paris.
We hope you have a wonderful time in this stunning city. We are sure, you will not be disappointed!
