Where to eat in Kuala Lumpur

Allianz Travel - Where to eat in Kuala Lumpur

Where to eat in Kuala Lumpur #AdventureAwaits

Kuala Lumpur is a foodie paradise. You can eat fantastic foods from all over the world, including Malaysian, of course, Thai, Chinese, Indonesian, Western… the list goes on.

So, where do you start?

In this article, we point you towards our favorite places to eat in the city. Some you may have heard of, some you may never have come across yourself…

The Food Courts

Do you and those you are with often argue over what to eat? Are you looking for something different to eat that won’t cost the earth? Then you should visit some of Kuala Lumpur’s food courts.

Our favorite is the Hutong Food Court set on the lower ground floor of Lot 10 mall. The design of the food court is interesting – like a Beijing village with alleyways linking the stalls.

Unlike most food halls, this one does not have a central table and chair area, instead there are small tables and chairs all around the stalls.

If you are looking for something a little cheaper, we also like KLCC Signatures. Located on the second floor, this food court has everything from local dishes to McDonalds!

Yes, you read that correct. You can get great Italian food in Kuala Lumpur!

Located in Bangsar, Opus is popular locally and well known for is tasty meals. If you like wine, they also have an extensive wine list!

The dish to try is the ‘Spaghetti ala Opus’ which includes prawns, squid and muscles.

For the view

The best way to view Kuala Lumpur is from one of its many tall towers, so why not combine that with a lovely dinner?

Marini’s on 57 is one of our top choices.

Marini’s on 57 is (another) wonderful Italian restaurant located in Petronas Tower 3 on, you guessed it, the 57th Floor. Marini’s on 57 is also a bar and lounge with an elegant feel and the sound of champagne glasses clinking.

The venue has floor to ceiling glass windows which provide gorgeous views across the city.

Another great restaurant for its stunning views is Thirty8 restaurant located on the 38th floor of the Grand Hyatt Hotel.

Banana Leaf

A visit to Kuala Lumpur is not complete without trying one of its Banana Leaf restaurants.

Using a Banana leaf instead of a plate, these rice and curry dishes are eaten with your fingers and are incredibly tasty!

Sri Nirwana Maji restaurant in Bangsar is one of our favorites, but as with all Banana leaf restaurants, be prepared for queues to get inside and served, especially at lunchtimes when office workers are near!

For Chinese

There is an abundance of choice of Chinese food, so where do you start?

Luckily, we have tried several Chinese restaurants in Kuala Lumpur and our favorite has to be Village Duck in Bangsar.

Village Duck has lots of fresh options for Chinese and choices include roast duck (of course!) braised pork with yam and soups!

Prices are reasonable and the restaurant can get quite busy so ring ahead if you can.

Something a bit different….

Have you ever eaten your dinner completely in the dark, not able to even see what it is you are eating? Then you should try Dining in the Dark in Changkat Bukit Bintang.

Here you will find yourself trying a mystery menu in a completely blackened out room served by fun yet calm waiting staff who are visually impaired.

It is believed that removing one of your senses (here being sight) heightens your other senses, creating this one of a kind dining experience.

Stop with all the options…. I want authentic Malaysian food

Well why wouldn’t you want Malaysian food in Kuala Lumpur.

Our favorite place for authentic Malaysian food has to be Restoran Rebung. It is located in KL’s city center and was voted as Best Malay Restaurant of the Time Out KL Food Awards 2010 and 2011!

The food is tasty and the prices are reasonable, so get yourself down there for a Negeri Sembilan or a lauk!

Kuala Lumpur is a big city and our suggestions are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to finding great places to eat!

The best thing for you to do is get out into the city and explore it. Hurry up now, your Malaysian #AdventureAwaits
