Travel insurance does not automatically cover every health situation. This page explains which conditions may affect your cover, what you must declare when purchasing a policy, and what to do if you are unsure whether your health affects your eligibility.
Read this page carefully before buying. If something is unclear, contact us before purchasing rather than after an incident.
When you purchase an Allianz travel insurance policy, you are making an implicit declaration that you meet the health eligibility criteria. This is not a separate form you fill in. It means that by purchasing the policy, you confirm that none of the conditions listed below apply to you or any other insured person on the policy.
If any of these conditions do apply, claims related to those conditions will not be covered. Providing inaccurate information, even unintentionally, can make a claim invalid.
You will not be covered for any claim arising directly or indirectly from a health condition if, at the time you purchased this policy or booked your journey (whichever is later), any of the following applied to you:
1
| You were being prescribed regular medication for any medical condition.
|
2
| You had received treatment or had a consultation with a doctor or hospital specialist for any medical condition in the past 6 months.
|
3
| You were being referred to, treated by, or were under the ongoing care of a doctor or hospital specialist.
|
4
| You were awaiting the results of any medical tests, investigations, or a confirmed diagnosis.
|
5
| A doctor had diagnosed you with a terminal illness.
|
6
| You were awaiting medical treatment or consultation at any medical facility.
|
7
| You were travelling against the advice of a doctor, or would have been advised not to travel if you had sought medical advice before departing.
|
8
| You knew you would require medical treatment or consultation at a medical facility during the trip.
|
9
| You were travelling specifically to obtain elective surgery, a medical procedure, or hospital treatment abroad.
|
Your claim may also be affected by the health of people who are not insured on your policy, if their condition influences your decision to travel. You will not be covered for claims arising from the health of a travelling companion, someone you were planning to stay with, a close relative, or a business associate, if at the time your policy was issued, any of the following applied to that person:
- You were aware they had been receiving medical treatment or consultation at any medical facility for any condition in the past 12 months.
- You were aware they were awaiting medical treatment, consultation, or investigation for a medical condition.
- You were aware that a doctor had diagnosed them with a terminal illness, or that their condition was likely to deteriorate in the next 12 months.
A pre-existing medical condition means any of the following:
- An ongoing medical or dental condition, or a related complication, that you are aware of.
- A medical or dental condition that is being, or has been, investigated or treated by a health professional before your policy was issued.
- Any condition for which you take prescribed medication or see a medical specialist.
- Any condition for which you have previously had surgery.
Pre-existing conditions are excluded from cover as standard. If you have a pre-existing condition and need cover for it, contact us before purchasing to discuss your options. Do not assume you are covered without confirming.
These examples are illustrative, not exhaustive. If your situation is unclear, contact us directly.
Do not assume. If any of the exclusion criteria above might apply to you or anyone on your policy, contact us before purchasing. We can clarify your specific situation. We cannot advise on medical matters, but we can confirm how the policy terms apply.
