Exclusion Category
What This Means in Practice
Pre-existing medical conditions Any condition for which you received treatment, were prescribed medication, or were referred to a specialist in the 120 days before purchasing your policy. Does not need to have been formally diagnosed. Applies to claims where the loss is directly or indirectly related to the condition.
Known events at purchase Any loss, condition or event that was already known, foreseeable or expected when you bought the policy. If a storm or event was in the news before you purchased, related claims will not be covered.
Alcohol and drug-related incidents Any incident - illness, injury, accident, loss - that occurs while you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This does not apply to prescription drugs taken as directed by a doctor.
Unauthorised hazardous activities Any hazardous or extreme activities without the Sports Cover add-on. Activities that are not arranged as part of your trip, not provided by a licensed company, or prohibited by law are also excluded.
Extreme high-risk activities (always excluded) BASE jumping · Free climbing · High-altitude activities above 4,500m · Heli-skiing or off-piste in unsafe areas · Racing any motorised vehicle · Free diving below 30ft (10m) without dive master · Personal combat sports. These remain excluded even with the Sports Cover add-on.
Travel against government advice If you travel to a destination that is subject to an official travel warning or advisory from your home government or the destination government, any loss directly or indirectly related to the reason for that warning is excluded.
Elective and non-emergency medical care Travel insurance covers emergencies only. Planned procedures, cosmetic surgery, fertility treatments, routine check-ups, long-term care, and any treatment you intended to receive before travel are all excluded.
Professional sports competitions Participating in or training for any professional, semi-professional, or amateur sporting competition while on your trip. Informal recreational activities organised by hotels or resorts are not excluded.
War, terrorism and political risk War, acts of war, terrorist events, political risk and nuclear events are generally excluded. Exception: emergency medical and emergency transportation remain covered even in a terrorist event.
COVID-19 general restrictions General government lockdowns, population-wide travel bans, and restrictions based on destination do not trigger COVID-19 benefits. The COVID-19 quarantine benefit only applies when you are individually mandated by name.

About Allianz & Plans

Allianz is widely recognised as one of the leading travel insurance providers worldwide and in the UAE. It is voted the #1 global insurance brand for 7 years running, covers over 70 million travellers annually, and has 135+ years of industry expertise. For UAE travellers, Allianz offers comprehensive plans that cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations, baggage, COVID-19, and much more - with plans starting from just AED 50. 24/7 emergency assistance and a network across 240 countries make it a top choice for both residents and visitors.

Allianz Travel differentiates itself from other UAE providers in several key areas:

  • Global strength: #1 insurance brand worldwide for 7 consecutive years, backed by 135+ years of expertise and covering 70+ million travellers annually.
  • UAE-tailored plans: Purpose-built products for this market — Inbound to UAE, Schengen (visa-compliant), Hajj & Umrah, Senior, and Family plans — unlike generic one-size-fits-all policies from many local insurers.
  • Wider network: Access to pre-screened hospitals and assistance teams across 240 countries, with 24/7 multilingual emergency support via phoneline.
  • Faster claims: Dedicated online claims portal with streamlined documentation requirements — no need to chase paperwork through intermediaries.
  • Affordability: Plans starting from just AED 50, with transparent pricing and no hidden fees.
  • COVID-19 included as standard: All plans cover COVID-19 medical expenses and quarantine costs — not offered as standard by all competitors.

In short, Allianz combines the financial security of a global leader with the local relevance and accessibility UAE travellers need.

If you are a UAE resident travelling from Dubai internationally, choose between: the Schengen plan (for Europe/visa), Single Trip Global (worldwide trips up to 90 days), or Annual Multi-Trip (for 3+ trips per year).

If you are visiting Dubai from abroad, the Inbound to UAE plan is specifically designed for you and covers emergency medical expenses up to AED 150,000.

Allianz Travel UAE offers three main coverage tiers:

(1) Schengen / Basic: Covers emergency medical expenses to meet Schengen visa requirements. Minimum coverage, lowest price.

(2) Standard: Adds coverage for baggage, trip cancellation, and curtailment on top of medical.

(3) Premium: The most comprehensive plan with higher limits across all categories. Recommended for longer trips, higher-value travel, or those wanting maximum peace of mind.

Always review the Policy Document for exact limits per tier.

Coverage & Benefits

Allianz travel insurance plans cover emergency medical expenses (hospital stays, surgery, medication, dental), emergency medical evacuation and repatriation, trip cancellation and curtailment for covered reasons, missed or delayed departures (compensation after 4-hour delay), lost/delayed/stolen baggage and personal belongings, loss of travel documents, personal liability (legal fees and court costs), COVID-19 emergency medical expenses, and COVID-19 mandatory quarantine accommodation costs. Coverage limits vary by plan tier - Schengen, Standard, and Premium - with Premium offering the highest limits.

Yes. All Allianz Travel plans include COVID-19 specific benefits: emergency medical and associated expenses if you contract COVID-19 while travelling, and quarantine accommodation costs if you test positive and are required to isolate during your trip. These benefits apply to both outbound plans (UAE residents travelling abroad) and the Inbound to UAE plan (for visitors arriving in the UAE).

Standard Allianz travel insurance policies do not cover claims arising from pre-existing medical conditions. A pre-existing condition is generally defined as any condition for which you have received treatment, been prescribed regular medication, or been referred to a specialist in the 6 months prior to purchasing your policy. If you have an existing medical condition, you must complete the health declaration and review the health exclusions carefully before purchasing. Contact Allianz for guidance on whether your specific condition may be covered.

Standard Allianz travel insurance plans do not automatically cover high-risk activities. You must add the 'Sports Cover' add-on at the time of requesting quote to ensure coverage. Refer to the policy document for a full list of covered and excluded hazardous activities.

Yes. Allianz Travel Insurance includes personal liability cover, which pays for legal costs, court fees, and compensation claims if you are held legally responsible for injuring a third party or damaging their property while abroad. Specific limits apply per plan - refer to your policy wording for the exact coverage amount.

Eligibility, Purchasing & Pricing

Allianz Travel Insurance UAE is available to UAE residents of any nationality, aged 0 to 85 years.

Non-residents of the UAE who are visiting the country can purchase the Inbound to UAE plan.

Policies cannot be purchased once a trip has already begun - all purchases must be made before departure.

Coverage is available for travellers aged 0 to 85 years. There is no minimum age - infants are covered. Travellers aged 66 to 85 years should consider the Senior Travel plan, which is designed for the specific needs of older travellers and is available from AED 140.

Yes. Allianz offers a dedicated Family Travel Insurance plan covering a minimum of 2 adults with an unlimited number of dependent children, all under one policy and at a fixed family rate. This plan is available starting from AED 140 and covers all the same benefits as individual plans, including medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and baggage.

Children are covered under family travel insurance plans when travelling with their parents. However, if a child is travelling independently or with someone other than their parents, a separate policy should be purchased. Children travel at 50% off the adult rate. Always confirm coverage when children travel under non-standard circumstances.

No. Allianz Travel Insurance can be purchased independently of your travel bookings. You do not need to have booked your flights or accommodation through any specific agent or platform. Simply purchase your policy online at allianz-assistance.ae with your trip dates and destination details.

No. Travel insurance must be purchased before your trip begins. Any policy purchased after departure is not valid and claims will not be eligible. Allianz verifies purchase dates when processing claims, so it is essential to purchase your policy in advance - ideally at the time of booking.

Visit allianz-assistance.ae and click 'Get a Quote'. Select Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip. Enter your destination(s), travel dates, and traveller ages. Choose your plan tier. Pay securely online via Visa or Mastercard.

Your policy documents and certificate of insurance are emailed instantly. The entire process takes under 5 minutes.

Allianz Travel Insurance UAE accepts Visa and Mastercard for online purchases. All payments are processed through a 100% secure, 40-bit SSL encrypted payment gateway. Allianz does not store your card details.

Policy Duration, Refunds & Changes

Single Trip plans cover trips up to 90 days. Annual Multi-Trip plans cover unlimited trips throughout the year, with no single trip exceeding 90 days.

Your coverage starts and ends on the dates you select at the time of purchase. For single trip policies, cover ends when you return to your home country or on the policy end date, whichever comes first. Annual multi-trip policies expire 12 months from the start date. Always ensure your travel dates are entered accurately when purchasing.

No. Unused days on a single trip policy are not refundable if you return home earlier than planned. Annual multi-trip policies provide flexibility - you are covered for any trip you take within the policy year, regardless of how many or few you use.

You can request a refund within 14 days of receiving your policy documents, provided your trip has not started.  After 14 days, policies are generally non-refundable. Contact Allianz at +971 4 270 8705 or travel@nextcarehealth.com.

Yes, claims will still be considered even without all receipts. You are expected to provide some proof of ownership - this can include photographs, warranty cards, bank or credit card statements, or manuals. Allianz uses common sense in evaluating evidence: the question is whether the documentation conclusively proves you owned the item.
